Kimberly Kay Hoang was a Postdoctoral Associate in the Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities (PJHC) Program at the Center for Women, Gender and Sexuality (CSWGS) and the Kinder Institute for Urban Research. She holds her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley (2011), M.A. in Sociology from Stanford University (2006), and B.A. in Communication and Asian American Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2005). Her areas of interest include the link between changing political economies and intimacy, globalization and transnationalism, gender and migration, and changing urban spaces in Vietnam's contemporary sex industry. Her publications include “She’s Not a Low Class Dirty Girl”: Sex Work in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam," in the Journal of Contemporary Ethnography (2011) and "Economies of Emotion, Familiarity Fantasy and Desire: Emotional Labor in Ho Chi Minh City's Sex Industry" in Sexualities (2010).
