Graduate students enrolled in the certificate program participate in the Center Colloquium - an annual series of paired seminars and public talks by visitors to the Center. The colloquium series exposes students to cutting edge work in the study of women, gender, and sexuality; enables them to interact with leading scholars in a variety of disciplines and interdisciplines; helps students to identify and participate in current debates in the field; models a rich variety of methods, theories, approaches, and objects of study; creates and sustains an ongoing interdisciplinary community among graduate students; and provides opportunities for professionalization.
Dates for the public talks are announced via the Center events feed on our homepage. Enrolled Graduate Certificate students will receive email notifications for the seminars.
Colloquium seminars are open only to CSWGS graduate certificate students, and are typically 90 minutes long over lunch. Readings will be made available in advance. In order to qualify for the Graduate Certificate, students must attend six seminars in their time at Rice. There will be a sign-up sheet available at each seminar.
Colloquium public talks are open to all members of the community. Certificate students are expected to attend these.
