On April 4, the Gray/Wawro Lectures in Gender, Health and Well-being continued with medical anthropologist Katrina Karkazis, whose talk examined gender testing in elite sports, such as the case of Caster Semenya. This lecture was presented in collaboration with the School of Engineering.

Over November 9 & 10, 2012, CSWGS celebrated two decades of women's studies at Rice.

On October 25, 2012, the Gray/Wawro Lectures in Gender, Health and Well-being continued with Laura Carlsen, whose work explores the effects of Mexico's economic and social policies on women.

Darren may have graduated in 2011, but his impact on our Center, the Rice campus, and Houston remains.  Before moving on to graduate school at the University of California at Berkeley, Darren sat down with us to talk about his experiences at Rice.  Watch the videos to learn more!

On September 20, 2012, the Gray/Wawro Lectures in Gender, Health and Well-being resumed with renowned sociologist Arlie Hochschild, whose latest book examines the impacts of outsourcing intimate care work to others.  This lecture was presented in collaboration with the School of Engineering.

In conjunction with the Human Rights Campaign and the Department of Philosophy, CSWGS was pleased to bring John Corvino to campus on August 29, 2012.

CSWGS is pleased to announce the establishment of the Sherry Matusoff Merfish Award, an annual prize to be given to a junior or senior who demonstrates a commitment to engaged research and social justice. Congratulations to Rachael Nicole Peterson, who was the recipient of this year's Merfish Award!
