Leslie Schwindt-Bayer is Professor of Political Science at Rice University. She received an M.A. in Latin American Studies (1999) and a Ph.D. in Political Science (2003) from the University of Arizona and joined the Rice faculty in 2013. Her research interests include comparative politics, legislatures, political representation, Latin America, and gender and politics. She was a U.S. Fullbright Fellow in Colombia in 2002, and in Fall 2008, she was a Visiting Fellow at the Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame. Professor Schwindt-Bayer is the author of Political Power and Women's Representation in Latin America (Oxford University Press, 2010), co-author of The Gendered Effects of Electoral Institutions: Political Engagement and Participation (Oxford University Press, 2012), co-author of Clarity of Responsibility, Accountability, and Corruption (Cambridge University Press, 2016), and editor of Gender and Political Representation in Latin America (Oxford University Press, 2017). She also has published numerous journal articles. Her current research focuses on women's representation in national legislatures in Latin America and on questions related to women's representation and corruption worldwide.
