Darren Arquero

Darren's research on bullying in the schools has generated interest from several organizations in Houston, including the Houston Independent School District, Rice University Police Department, and the Houston GLBT Political Caucus.

"Safe Schools Initiative and LGBT Students in the Houston Independent School District" is the result of a collaborative process between Darren, a Senior at Wiess, and Equality Texas.  Over the Fall of 2008, they worked to design a research plan that included interviews with guidance counselors and other staff of HISD schools.  The interviews took place over the Spring of 2009, and aimed to address the impact of anti-bullying measures in the schools, specifically surrounding issues of sexuality and gender identity.

Darren's project was one of eight studies undertaken in this inaugural year of the CSWGS Seminar and Practicum.
